I love this, beautiful photos. Agree so strongly about markets, they are such a window into the lives of locals. I was in Turkey in summer and so drawn to the bustle and interactions of the market - such a sensory overload but equally a great fragment of daily life.
I think I will do the same from now on! I was in Fethiye and the market there was the highlight of my stay. Then I visited Istanbul and somehow missed the Grand Bazaar by not doing my research and going when it was shut! But still found plenty of markets (including a beautiful old book one right outside the Bazaar), and it's just another reason to return to that incredible city. Plus as an Italian too I feel like the market culture is in my blood! I made sure to keep my Wednesday mornings free each week to explore the market in Siena when I lived there, I feel like it was a body of its own, growing and changing each week -- fascinating!
I love the grand bazaar even if it is touristic, yes I agree that markets are in our blood, but I thing the people from the middle eat have it in the blood even more!
Love this! Fabulous photos. We made it back to Italy in December after 37 years but not yet Sicily. My husband lived there for a summer, involved with the archeology at the Greek city of Morgantina near modern-day Aidone in central Sicily. The Greek stuff in Sicily is amazing! We’ll be back!
Very nice shots, I'd like to visit Sicily after this!
Thank you! I suggest you to consider also Palermo when you will plan to visit Sicily.
Yes, I've been told food is incredible in Sicily, particularly Palermo.
Your right food there is amazing, and personally I think Palermo is nicer than Catania
You’ve gotta love a bit of Baroque! Thanks great article!
Thank you!
Enchanting photographs ... a beautiful place. Thank you for sharing your visit there.
Thank you!
